~EtS Welcomes Vivian Arend… and her sexy shifters;)

Does the earth come with seatbelts?

I’m starting a petition and I need your signature. Desperately. Here’s the proposal:

Considering there simply isn’t enough time to get it all done in 24/7, we the undersigned would like to propose that effective immediately:

-all weeks now include an additional day called ‘CatchtheHellUpday’

-every day will have an extra three hours added immediately after lunch

-one extra week/ quarter inserted in the calendar that will not be allowed to be filled with ANYthing remotely resembling school assemblies, drama recitals or even children’s summer camp.

When did the earth start rotating faster? Seriously, I’ve always prided myself on being an efficient planner/ time management guru.

I was wrong.

Since I started writing last year my time has shrunk and the demands on my time have begun to multiply like the proverbial hangers in the closet. And I’m determined to make myself nip this problem in bud by making some solid plans. Or stomping the issue into submission. One of the two solutions has to work.

There’s all the tasks involved in creating a new manuscript- the research (thank the Lord I don’t write historicals but mainly paranormal which allow me to make some things up!) The writing, the editing/revising, the polishing and then the daunting task of formatting for the specific publishers requirements.

Once it’s accepted, there’s the blurb, the tagline, the art form to fill out. The actual edits, however many rounds it takes. Picking excerpts. Formatting excerpts.

Promoting… I’m getting tired listing this and I haven’t even started on the most important part. The chatting with friends and readers about what is going on in your world. Because if I’m honest, while I love writing, I’m a social butterfly and the people part- that’s where it’s at.

Visiting at a chat room, IMing, my new addiction twitter… the friends I’ve met from around the world are sooooo worth the time. Now if we can just get the proposal passed I’ll be farther on the way to getting it ALL done in a timely fashion.

Oh…one thing did get done in a timely fashion—I had a story published this Tuesday. Tidal Wave, a shifter story with a twist, released from Samhain Publishing. St. Elmo’s fire, dolphins and merfolk…conniving grannies and magical medallions. Intrigued? Come and check it out. I’d tell you more but I’m supposed to help my daughter practice her lines for Shakespeare in the park. And I have final line edits due and there’s this story I’ve got that’s almost done and…

  1. Well, heads up ladies, I’ve found my cover for next week’s Clash! :> Tidal Wave looks gorgeous. Sounds gorgeous too.

I had to laugh when I read your post, Vivian, because I’ve been needing a seatbelt for awhile myself. Normal life is such a whirl. When you add the author’s life into the mix, things can get crazy fast. Since I’m not one to tap on the brakes, a seatbelt would be the perfect solution!

Thanks so much for being our guest today:>

Thanks for the invite! Yup- the average speed of my day would gain me a ticket or two!!

    I -love- my cover.

Actually, I’ve been blessed by the cover gods and all my covers so far are works of art. Angie Waters at Samhain, and April Martinez at Liquid Silver are two mighty fine ladies.

  3. Leah Braemel says:

Where do I sign? I’m right there for “Catchthehellup Day”.

Great post, Vivian! (And Tidal Wave is a GREAT read)

  4. Jess Dee says:

I also LOVE the cover for Tidal Wave. It is gorgeous. Worthy of awards!

Viv – I have to disagree on one issue here. The hangers in my cupboard do not multiply. They decrease exponentially every day.
In fact, I am convinced there is a parallel universe somewhere, that consists only of missing hangers and single socks. (In case you’re wondering where the partners to those missing socks are – they are in my drawer!)

Um, oops. Did I just go off on a tangent completely unrelated to your blog?

    Jess

    Count in my signature too!

    Great post. lol

  6. Vivian Arend says:

Okay, I’m pimping out the day on twitter. Lets see if we can start something serious folks! :)

And Jess, that’s the answer. The alternate universe–it’s an instantaneous transporter from your closet to mine. I’ve got your freaking hangers!!!

Now if only I could figure out how to get you in there at the right time you could come for a visit.

  7. Jess Dee says:

Going to step into my cupboard now, and try make my way into that alternative universe.
Who knows? Maybe, just maybe… I can get my freaking hangers back from you!

  8. molli says:

I’ll sign that petition too! Tidal Wave is next up on my ‘read’ list. Oh and can I just mention……TJ!!!!
    hugs
    molli :D

  9. Dawn McClure says:

Great blog post! I adore your cover. :)

“Catchthehellupday” I’m totally in. Actually, I think I tried to celebrate CTHUD yesterday, but it bled into today. Odd. Christmas doesn’t do that.

I have your book in my downloads folder. Your cover really grabbed my attention…the colors and the layout. Then the blurb did the rest, and I had to buy it. LOL The warning was great…and for those of you who haven’t seen it…

Warning: This title contains a conniving granny, naked men in the surf and shifters who take fun in the water to new depths. Snorkels not required.

Thanks for being our guest today. :)

  10. Suzanne Rock says:

Thanks for coming Vivian! Great post!

And seriously, we need to get the word out on this petition, stat! I’ll follow you on twitter and we can talk… ;-) Excellent idea, and very timely. I’m in the midst of revising for a deadline, plotting my next story…organizing birthday parties…getting daughter’s gear for soccer season, which starts way too soon, IMHO.

oh, did I mention I was on vacation this week? :p

Sad to say that I don’t currently have “Tidal Wave” in my TBR pile. I’m heading over to Samhain right now to see if I can’t fix that problem…. :)

  11. Vivian Arend says:

Molli! You haven’t read it yet? There’s someone you’re going to like. Since you seen to enjoy the underage men!!!(Thomas)

Dawn- thanks for inviting me. I love getting to do the Warnings at Samhain. And seriously, Gram? She’s a firecracker!!

Susanne, I’m on vacation too. That’s what I keep telling my hubby. He says since I don’t work I can’t take holidays. Don’t work…HA!!!

Come and join me on twitter…the more the merrier!

I hope you enjoy Tidal Wave!

  12. Robyn Bski says:

    I totally vote for Catchthehellupday.

Great post, and that cover is gorgeous!
