Clash of the Covers – 08-03-09

Welcome to another installment of Clash of the Covers!!!

First, let’s award last week’s winner…

Congratulations Vivian Arend! Your book, “Tidal Wave” won the thorn! Woot!

 Now, onto this week’s challenge…

Suzanne’s Pick:

sues pick

What Suzanne says:  I love the use of color here. The blue draws you right to the important information: the title and the series name. I love the Central American background (the books center around a Mayan prophecy). The image of the hero with a dagger gives a very primal feel to the cover. It makes me think hunter — or warrior. It’s definately intriguing. Makes me want to read it!

Dawn’s Pick:

What Dawn says: What Dawn Says – I love the colors and the city in the background.  It’s a cover that truly makes you wonder…what the hell is that tatoo on his arm?  Can someone please tell me?  Is it a martian man?  But beyond the that…that’s one hot cover.  🙂

Barbara’s Pick:

What Barbara says: I have a confession to make.  I miss clench covers.  I do.  I love a nice set of abs as much as the next girl, but I’m getting a little over the whole headless naked dude phenomenon.  Enter this delightful little gem of a cover with two lovers actually looking into each other’s eyes.  What a concept!  They both actually have heads:)  I love the tender look they’re sharing. I love that the artist has captured the moment just before a kiss.  Natalie Winters…you rock!

Now it’s your turn. Which cover is your favorite??

  1. Wow, Suzanne, today your blog about cover trends from last week really hit home!

  2. Oh man! All three covers are gorgeous. I thought voting for my favorite would be easy. LOL!

  3. lol seriously what IS that tattoo?!

  4. Linda Henderson says:

I think the two gazing into each others eyes on “The Matchmaket” is very sexy. Not that I don’t appreciate a hot half dressed guy on the cover, but there’s something very romantic about just a touch, a glance. Anyway, it gets my vote.

    Linda Henderson

  5. Judy Cox says:

I do like all three of these covers also. I have to go with the Sky Keepers for the same reason as Suzanne. The colors are fantastic!!

  6. love2wryte says:

I love the intimacy of The Matchmakers!

  7. Wow, Suzanne, thanks so much for the pick!!

I’m very grateful to the gods of cover art for the fan-tabulous job they did on Skykeepers (as well as the prior two books in the series, Nightkeepers and Dawnkeepers)– pretty much the sum total of the input I gave them on this one was: Michael is the darkest and most sensual of the heroes so far, so feel free to sex it up. And get some chocolate in there if you can!

(The Maya originated the consumption of chocolate and used it in their rituals … let’s just say that the modern-day heroine, Sasha, takes that theme and runs with it .)

The artists couldn’t get the chocolate in there (is that a free trade candy bar in his pocket, or is he just happy to see us?) but I love what they came up with, and really appreciate it being picked for the clash of the covers!

Props to the other two picks, too. I love me a good clinch cover, and the color palette on the second one made me go ‘ooh’ 🙂

  8. Oh, and Judy. THANK YOU!

  9. Wendy Fillmore says:

All 3 look great, but my vote is for the eye-gazing heart-melting cover of The Matchmakers! If only I could get hubby to look at me that way… 😀

  10. vivianarend says:

Stopping in to say thankyou for including me in last weeks contest.
Angie Waters was the cover artist on Tidal Wave, and she did a fabulous job.

Lovely covers again this week… and colours are spectacular.

    Best of luck to all.

    Vivian Arend

  11. Anna Hackett says:

I was torn between Skykeepers and The Matchmakers…the look on the hero’s face on Matchmakers won my vote. Great pick, Barbara.

  12. C. says:

The tattoo on his arm is actually the Mayan hieroglyph for “jaguar”. It has symbolism in the story – trust me. 😉

    Thanks showcasing my cover!

  13. Kendal Ashby says:

    I vote for Cat Eye’s
The colors and mystery makes me want to know more!

  14. I totally love Cat’s Eye.

  15. C. says:

Thanks, Kendal and Asa. Amanda Kelsey (the artist) did an awesome job using my descriptions of the characters and bringing them to life. 🙂

  16. Jeanne says:

    Dawn–the colors got me too.

  17. Beverly G says:
