Welcome Susan Hanniford Crowley and her Vampires in Manhatten

How a World Was Born: Vampires in Manhattan Series

I didn’t think about creating a fictional world. After over 20 years of talking on panels about vampires at science fiction and fantasy conventions, I dreamt of a vampire, New Yorker David Hilliard, who fell in love with Telkhine Laura Cordelais, descended from an ancient race of beings that could control the weather. Of course, David has no idea what problems will come their way.

When he takes Laura back to New Orleans to visit the tomb of her mother, she is kidnapped by a voodoo mambo. It’s here that David discovers that Laura’s family is supernatural royalty while vampires are outcasts in New Orleans . To get her back, dying isn’t enough. This became the full length novel The Stormy Love Life of Laura Cordelais.

A little more about The Stormy Love Life of Laura Cordelais: LIGHTNING Being descended from an ancient race blessed by Zeus doesn’t help Telkhine Laura Cordelais, when she’s desperate and standing between life and death. Her destiny looks bleak. Every choice leads to death, and there is no winning door. Or is there? THUNDER Begging God for love, Vampire David Hilliard finds his request answered in the form of the tormented and dying Laura. In saving her, he falls in love and dooms them both to a dark underworld of voodoo and sorcery from which nothing can escape. THE STORM BEGINS Curses, Keres, demons, oh, my! And the unicorn’s horn.

From that story line, I decided to go back further and look at New York life before David met Laura. When Love Survives is based on David’s friend, Gregor Vasiliev, a shapeshifter who was a financial advisor in the Twin Towers on September 11th. When he decides to go out for coffee and donuts, he meets half elf/half leprechaun Regina O’Malley. It’s what happens in those few minutes that bring these two together as they join the efforts of rescue workers at Ground Zero. This novella introduces David Hilliard, who has a secondary but important role.

In A Vampire for Christmas (novella), the Arnhem Society, a secret society of vampires is revealed by vampire and Arnhem Knight Trevor Stenwood. When demons are hunting down Georgia Blake, he calls in other Arnhem Knights (David and Laura) to help protect the woman he loves. Georgia is a Harmony, a human with a rare supernatural gift.

Though each book stands alone in its story, the characters are all connected through friendship or family ties. Before I knew it, a world was created and the Vampires in Manhattan series was born.
